Kozo Unryu resembles No. 10.05.01 but is of finer structure.
The paper gets fixated onto the wooden frames with water-soluble glue (see adhesives).
Shoji paper is always more or less translucent. In ancient Japan Shoji were the windows in houses, glass windows did not exist at that time.
The often cloudy or fibrous structure is of course particularly beautiful before daylight or lamplight. If there is no light source (e.g. for cabinet doors), other effects are in the foreground.
In view of hundreds of different Shoji papers, the choice was not easy for us.
We like this assortment very much and it has proven itself in years of own use.
The papers differ in colour, structure, strength and surface. Looking and "feeling" helps with the selection, therefore we offer the dispatch of samples.
Japan paper without plastic reinforcement is surprisingly robust. Pointed objects or sharp cat claws can still be dangerous.
In our experience, fields that are too large have not proved themselves and should have a dimension of max. 30 x 40 cm. Not larger
Since Japanese shoji usually have sash bars with a thickness of 6-8 mm, the impression of too much wood in the surfaces is not likely to occur even with narrow sash bars spacings.
It is applied with the help of water-soluble glue and stretches very nicely.
Individual fields or the entire surface can be easily repaired or replaced.
The uncoated papers all have a front side (smooth) and a back side (rough),
the paper is glued with the smooth side (visible side) to the sash bars.
A covering instruction is sent with an order.
